Videocon, the consumer electronics and home appliances company, revealed a Hybrid Solar Air Conditioner (AC). The company claims it’s the world’s first AC to operate on solar energy.
“With the ability to be operated with naturally obtained energy, Solar Hybrid AC is the future, ” Akshay Dhoot, Head of Technology and Innovation Videocon added at the product launch.
Videocon Hybrid Solar ACs omit the basic to consume electricity from the grid, permitting 100 percent power savings and a lower carbon footprint in contrast to the energy gulping conventional ACs. However, if the battery runs out of charge, it automatically shifts to steady electricity supply.
Also, the surplus energy produced via these solar ACs can be exported back to the grid to accept bonus payments as per the government regulations. The company also has ideas to make it’s whole AC portfolio compatible with solar energy, Dhoot told.
“Its solar panel stems with 25 years of linear power output warranty and 10 years of panel warranty. The newly launched AC provides effective cooling without any variations with the minimum load on the grid,” Sanjeev Bakshi, COO-AC Division, Videocon stated.
By the launch of this eco-friendly AC range, Videocon focus to capture 13% of the AC market in India by end of FY 2017 from the present 9 per cent, said Bakshi. The AC sector is likely to grow by 25 percent to 5 million units in 2017.
The product is accessible in two models, 1 ton Hybrid Solar AC available for Rs 99,000 and the 1.5 ton model at Rs 1,39,000. Both the models fulfill with BEE star ratings and possess 5 stars, building them a certified power saver, stated in the company statement.  The AC approaches with R-410A refrigerant and also has features such as a digital display, turbo cool mode, auto restart and copper condenser.
