New Delhi, December 19, 2022: Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Government of India, shared his passionate advocacy for road safety at the TV9 Network Road to Safety Summit presented by Continental Tires, on Monday, 19 December 2022 in New Delhi.
“We need changes in road and automobile engineering to ensure road safety. Moreover, emergency handling infrastructure can also mitigate the effects of road accidents. From helicopter availability to airlift accident victims in critical cases, to ambulances equipped with metal cutters for road accidents in remote areas, we are focused on emergency care,” the minister said. “The media can play a critical role in educating people about the dangers of flouting road safety rules,” he added.
The Ministry has invited celebrities from the film industry and sports personalities to generate citizen awareness around road safety, the minister said.
Apart from technological intervention, people must value their lives. Citizens should abide by lane driving rules and avoid mobile usage, he said, while asking the media to keep a close watch on his ministry’s work.

The Summit featured a panel discussion titled “Steering to Safety: India Tightens its Belt” comprising industry stalwarts Mr. Chirag Katira, General Secretary, All India Motor Transport Congress; Mr. Rohit Baluja, President, Institute of Road Safety Education; and Samir Gupta, Head of Central Region, BA Tires APAC, MD, Continental Tires India, discussing initiatives taken by the automobile ecosystem to make our roads safe.
In the panel discussion titled “Don’t Cross the Line” Mr. Murali Kartik, former Team India Cricketer; Mr. Surinder Singh Yadav, Special Commissioner, Traffic, Delhi Police; Mr. Abhilash Thapliyal, Actor; and Amit Bhandari, former Team India Cricketer shed light on the importance of maintaining sincerity when it comes to road safety.
Notable crusaders including Mr. Raghvendra Kumar, popularly known as the Helmet Man of India; Mr. Manoj Wadhwa, who led the cause of filling potholes; Ms. Doris Francis, the traffic heroine of Ghaziabad; Mr. Chandrashekhar Narayan Mohite, who identifies black spots to prevent road accidents; and Mr. Sandeep Shahi, Head Constable Delhi Police, Delhi’s helmet cop, were felicitated by Mr. Gadkari for devoting their lives to the prime cause of road safety.
This edition of TV9 Network Road Safety Summit, presented by Continental Tires, is part of TV9 Network’s constant engagement with the road transport industry.
