Suzuki Motor Gujarat Private Limited (SMG) informed today that the site has achieved an accumulated automobile production of one million units to stand out as one of the fastest production sites of Suzuki. SMG is a subsidiary unit of Suzuki Motor Corporation that manufactures cars on a contract basis for Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. The plant only manufactures Baleno and Swift.
Since SMG first started facilitating Baleno in February 2017, the plant has hit the mark of one million units which took almost 3 years and 9 months to achieve. After Baleno, Swift was rolled out in January 2018 which was previously had been manufacturing at the Maruti’s plant in Manesar, Haryana. Later, the whole process was shifted to Gujarat plant for exclusive production. The production for exporting was also initiated by the month of March 2018.
In the month of January 2019, Plant B, the second production site and the Powertrain Plant began their operations in order to meet the increasing demands of International as well as Indian clientele. SMG’s production contribution accounted to 25% of approximately 1.58 units made in the country (almost 410000 units) in the year 2019 alone. The total sales of Suzuki were approximately 1.44 million units in FY2019.
SMG has around 1800 employees with Baleno and Swift being the prime products manufactured at the plant located in Ahmedabad. Even with the adverse effects of Covid-19, Suzuki stays committed in meeting the needs of the Indian customers while maintaining all the safety protocols in these pandemic times. Having all the necessary preventive measures in place Suzuki operates with optimum capacity to yield best results.
