With a firm passion for finance and strongly influenced by her husband, Smita Bhadury, the Director at Knowledge Lens, brings rich experience in accounting and people management. She drives the company investment strategy and manages vendor relations. She also drives the overall talent management, the investment strategy for the company.
The Journey till Date
Smita’s journey started in the field of accounting when the mobile market in India was in its nascent stage. At the earlier stage of her professional career, she had worked with a startup in Mumbai on managing their accounting and finance. Subsequently, she had a break in her career as she had to travel to the US with family and decided to make voluntary contributions to National Library and many others.
On return from the US, she helped her close friend in her entrepreneurial journey and thereafter started Knowledge Lens, I took over the Finance and HR Operations of Knowledge Lens.
From professional ethics, her DNA rest on Smart Work and Complete Accountability. Thus, Smita looks after the Finance and HR Operations of Knowledge Lens. Throughout the career, work has been a key guiding principle for her. “Work is worship and we try to do our best in whatever role we assume,” – expresses Smita.

“My Husband has been a great motivator for me. And he is the role model for me. Everything about him screams AMAZING. He is the most forgiving person I have ever met. HE is so kind, so patient, so understanding. His simple living and high thinking always drove me to be the best in what I do. His focus on work, and his selfless dedication towards everything he do drives me always ,” says Smita.

Knowledge Lens has a very de-risked business model, where it has ‘Environment Business’ which focuses mostly on the B2B model and B2G model. This unique model created by the company along with International Certification and Collaboration made Knowledge Lens to create a niche in its space, uniquely.
Apart from everything, it has Enterprise Data Business – a partner-based strategy which helps the company to work with giant partners and provide niche consultancy to large clients in the US.

In India, the company maintains direct customer relationship with large corporates, especially in Industrial IoT Space. The company is differentiating with unique features and solutions that help beat the cut-throat competition. ‘Trust’ – One thing that Changed Everything
The biggest daring challenge the company took was to setup the Environment Laboratory in Chennai. The reason behind this is to have a downward integration of its Environment Business to enable it to give a complete solution to its customer in the environment. This was a big investment with little knowledge in this field. But, with the help of the company’s domain expert and trusting on the key people, Knowledge Lens dared to make an investment that paid off. This was a major decision for the company which helped it to reach the epitome of success.
Noteworthy Achievements
Till date, the company has achieved many milestones and recognized among the crowd. One of the important milestones is for the startup to grow without any employee attrition in this competitive world. Moving from a small office to over 500+ seater IT Park in Nov 2018, was another big milestone for the company; as they had to do multiple scenario modeling from a Finance and HR Perspective to look at the future business and outlook. Moving to a new place which was costing almost ten times the original space was a big decision and remarkable milestone.
Last but not least, empowering women in Knowledge Lens and driving diversity initiatives with Knowledge Lens is another important milestone that the company has achieved.
Smita also shared one of the very important milestones, which is very close to her heart and everyone in the company still cherishes the moment. It is the moment when the Knowledge Lens got its product MCERTS certified. This was one of the remarkable moments as it is the only startup company in India which achieved an International Certification for a homegrown product. This brought Knowledge Lens a lot of credibility in the market.
Future Roadmap
Keeping in mind the enormous opportunities across the globe, Smita is dedicatedly running behind her objectives. She has decided to take Knowledge Lens to a 200 Cr company by 2022 with a global presence across the world. Even though, she has been on the top management position in the company driving Knowledge Lens financially; she would like to explore other areas of management other than Finance and HR.

“The most important aspect for every budding entrepreneur is the profitability of business. No business can sustain long term if there is no focus on profitability. VC funding etc. only can last only for limited period, if a viable business has to be created, it is required that we have a strong business fundamentals and the business should add sustainable value. Once we master this art, then all business is viable,”- says Smita. Furthermore, she asserts that “The second most important aspect is the passion and drives to make the impossible. Every journey will appear impossible at the beginning, unless u drive it with passion and confidence.”
