Jatinder Singh Hansweral, father of Olympic medalist Sarabjot Singh, announced plans to visit the gurdwara and participate in a langar (community meal) to celebrate his son’s remarkable achievement at the 2024 Olympics. Sarabjot secured a bronze medal in the mixed 10-meter air pistol event alongside Manu Bhaker at the Chateauroux Shooting Range, defeating Korea’s Wonho Lee and Jin Ye Oh with a score of 16-10. This victory marked India’s second medal at the ongoing Olympics.

Reflecting on Sarabjot’s performance, Jatinder Singh expressed his joy and pride, saying, “My son has won the medal. He congratulated the villagers and the people of Ambala. I will first visit the gurdwara for langar, and then return home to celebrate with friends and family.”

While securing this medal Sarabjot encountered lot of hurdles. Last Saturday, he was unable to advance to the final of the men’s 10-meter air pistol event, losing by just 10 shots to Germany’s Robin Walter. Overwhelmed by disappointment, Sarabjot struggled to hold back tears. However, a supportive call from his father later that evening proved crucial in helping him regain his focus.

Jatinder Singh reflected on his son’s long journey, which began in 2014 at a local shooting camp. Sarabjit initially trained under coach Shakti Rana, sharing a gun with over 30 trainees. Despite limited resources and significant challenges, such as commuting difficulties, he persevered and continued his training under coach Abhishek Rana at Shooters Terrace Academy in Ambala Cantt.

This bronze medal marks Sarabjot’s first Olympic medal and Manu Bhaker’s second at these games, making her the first Indian athlete to win multiple medals at a single Olympic Games.
