As pioneers in the animation industry, could you take us back to the beginning of your journey? What motivated you to step into this dynamic ecosystem?
It all started in 2019 when a group of creative professionals decided to take a break from their monotonous lives and set up something that allowed them to express their thoughts the way they wanted. Being core gamers at their heart, they set their sails off in the vast gaming ocean with a vision of working on the best industry titles and echoing the name of Indian soil in the international markets. The sole motivation was to fulfil our passion for making AAA video games and get recognized for the purpose we dedicated our lives to.
Our journey has been a testament to the power of passion, the resilience of the human spirit, and the boundless potential of creative collaboration. It was a journey defined by the pursuit of greatness, fuelled by the unwavering belief that anything is possible with dedication, perseverance, and a touch of magic. Your leadership style is often recognized as a driving force behind 13 Particles’ achievements. Could you explain your approach to leadership and team building within the organization?
Recalling a quote by Warren G. Bennis, “Leadership is the capacity to translate vision into reality,” we are proud to mention that the 13 Particles approach correlates with it. So far, we have observed that whatever little we’ve achieved stems from the roadmap that we had set when we started. One needs to have a solid vision or, at the very least, a basic clarity about where the organization needs to head and what the way to go is.
Regarding team building, in today’s competitive environment, you need to be a team player no matter what your position in the company. You need to be there and empathize with your colleagues and employees, leading to a synergized work environment and, thus, more collective growth for the company. We have many team-building activities in 13 Particles, which ensures that our team members are always energised and understand the importance of collaboration and teamwork in their daily work lives. We believe in creating brand ambassadors who are not outside the company but are created, supported and developed in-house. We are proud to mention that our Associate 3D art lead artist, Sahil Thakur, and Mid-Level artist, Neeraj Lamba, are a few of those proud ambassadors who have been nurtured and grown in-house since the beginning of their careers who not only take pride in taking forward our values and mission of the company but also feel and breath same each day. Seeing through the eyes of the end product consumers, who are gamers, artists and creative directors and understanding their perspectives enables us to orient our creations to meet their expectations. Strategizing the pipeline for every project efficiently and delegating tasks as per the competencies of our employees, along with regular audits and strong quality assurance, gives us the space where we can have a good balance between the two. We also consult our clients to provide them with the best and most efficient solutions, as we realize that fully understanding clients’ requirements is the basic aspect of churning out top-notch quality artwork.
Several key strategies, such as a collaborative approach, streamlining the production pipeline, believing in continuous improvement, having strong quality assurance, and closing the feedback loop at all times, can help us strike a fairly good balance.

That’s true. It’s crucial to keep up with the wave of technological advancements, especially in our field. From daily office workflows to the core design our artists do, we are constantly looking for up-to-date methods and techniques that make things swift and actionable. Implementing AI-based tools has supported this idea of ours, and it gives us time to think more creatively, which we utilize to innovate frequently.
Our artists have ready access to the latest gaming hardware, including PCs, gaming consoles, VR setups, and more. This makes it very accessible for them to experience the latest trends and reflect them in their works.
By adopting cutting-edge software and tools, investing in infrastructure, exploring emerging technologies such as AR/VR, strongly believing in training and development, and collaborating and forming strategic partnerships, we are able to drive innovation and contribute to the advancement of animation technology on a broader scale.

We have a long way to go, but we’re really grateful for everything we have been able to accomplish so far. There have been quite a few projects, starting from De_Cache to the latest ones like PUBG, Unreal, Neoscape, War for Earth and several others, which were a great opportunity for us to showcase our calibre and potential, highlighting our affinity to strive for the best. Throughout the production process, we maintained open lines of communication with the client, soliciting feedback and incorporating their input into our work to ensure that the final product exceeded their expectations. Our collaborative approach strengthened our partnership with the client and resulted in a truly transformative animated experience that resonated with audiences worldwide.
The success of the PUBG project not only solidified our reputation as a leader in the gaming industry but also served as a testament to our company’s unwavering commitment to excellence and innovation. As a leader in India’s animation sector, your company has likely faced its share of challenges. Could you share an instance where your team’s resilience and ingenuity triumphed over adversity?
There were quite a few instances, especially during COVID-19, when we found it challenging to cope with the sudden changes that completely altered the way we were working.
One such instance was with a game assets project that we undertook for a leading company. We had to deliver everything on a set deadline. Thankfully, utilizing the remote connectivity solutions and the sheer perseverance of our members, we were able to pull it off with ease.
Our team’s resilience and ingenuity triumphed over adversity during the production of “War for Earth,” where 13 Particles contributed end to end. This project presented us with numerous challenges, including tight deadlines, technical constraints, and unforeseen creative obstacles. However, our team rose to the occasion, demonstrating remarkable resilience and ingenuity in the face of adversity. Through collaborative problem-solving, innovative thinking, and sheer determination, we devised a workaround that addressed the immediate issue and elevated the quality and impact of the final animation. Our ability to adapt and thrive in the face of adversity impressed our client, strengthened our team’s bond, and bolstered our confidence in our capabilities. It showcased our ability to overcome challenges, push the boundaries of creativity, and deliver exceptional results even in the most challenging circumstances. The experience served as a valuable reminder of the strength of our team and our capacity to triumph over adversity, no matter the odds.
The COVID-19 pandemic has reshaped industries globally. How has your firm navigated these unprecedented times and adapted its strategies to ensure business continuity?
The show must go on. This simple attitude kept us going despite obstacles and motivated us to continue the studio operations remotely. We didn’t pick up much work during that period. Our aim was to successfully complete the ongoing projects and deliver quality output to our clients.
We didn’t want the pandemic excuse to justify any setbacks in our journey, so we focused on getting the most apt results out of whatever was available at our disposal. We’ve always focused on quality, never quantity.
Like any other people’s business, 13 Particles Studio faced significant challenges, but we adapted swiftly to ensure business continuity while prioritizing the health and safety of our team members. By prioritizing the well-being of our team members, embracing remote work, enhancing communication and remaining agile and adaptable, we successfully navigated the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic and ensured business continuity.
Animation tech is a niche industry in India that demands constant innovation. What would you advise other budding entrepreneurs who aspire to venture into this space?
Don’t hesitate to explore and keep doing it regularly. You must constantly prove your mettle to be at the top of the game. It’s not like you’ve achieved a milestone, and that’s it. To eventually leave a mark and a legacy, you’d have to keep going without any stops or breaks on a larger level. With discipline and consistency, you can achieve great heights as you unlock your greatest potential.
