NLC India Ltd Won Odisha Coal Mine of 1.38 Billion Tonnes Capacity

State-owned NLC India Ltd said on Monday that it had acquired a coal mine in Odisha.
The mine’s coal production will contribute to the country’s energy security. The coal mine has total reserves of approximately 1.38 billion tonnes and an operational peak-rated capacity of 30 million tonnes per year (MTPA).

“NLC India Ltd has emerged as the successful bidder for the Machhakata (revised) coal mine in Angul district of Odisha in the eighth round of commercial coal block e-auction,” according to a statement issued by the business. This is the second coal mine won by a public sector business, following North Dhadu coal block (Western Part).

The business stated that it is dedicated to increasing capacity in accordance with its aim of reaching more than 100 MTPA by 2030 from the current 50 MTPA.

NLC India Limited is a central public sector undertaking administered by the Ministry of Coal, Government of India. NLC India Limited (NLC), originally Neyveli Lignite Corporation India Limited, is a central public sector undertaking under the Ministry of Coal, Government of India. The opencast mines at Neyveli, Tamil Nadu, and Barsingsar, Bikaner district, Rajasthan, produce approximately 30 million tonnes of lignite each year. Lignite is utilized in 3640 MW pithead thermal power plants to generate electricity. Its joint venture operates a coal-fired thermal power station with a capacity of 1000 MW.

NLC India’s main businesses are mining and power generation. Meanwhile, on Monday, the coal ministry signed Coal Mining Development and Production Agreements for three coal mines that were auctioned.

The agreements were signed for the Machhakata (Revised) coal mine, Kudanali Lubri coal mine, and Sakhigopal-B Kakurhi coal mine, according to a statement from the coal ministry.

The winning bidders are NLC India Ltd, Gujarat Mineral Development Corporation Ltd, and Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation Limited.
