BlackBerry has previously confirmed that it won’t be manufacturing smartphones on its own, and as a substitute be outsourcing manufacturing to China’s TCL. Now TCL has confirmed it will unveil a slew of BlackBerry branded smartphones at the CES 2017.
They are going to reveal more news at CES about their plans, showcasing the legacy of the BlackBerry smartphone brand, while also giving a preview into what new BlackBerry smartphones will offer as a part of their bold new brand portfolio under TCL. These are just the building blocks of their fresh growth strategy, with additional announcements to be announced in 2017.
BlackBerry has inked a long term licensing deal with China’s TCL, under that deal, the company will design, manufacture, sell and provide customer support for all BlackBerry branded mobile devices. The Chinese smartphone maker behind the Alcatel brand has produced two smartphones for BlackBerry such as the DTEK50 and DTEK60.
BlackBerry might have lost out on the smartphone race, but it is expected that the licensing and distribution deal with TCL will help its brand recover some of the presence.
