In its latest update, social media giant Meta, formerly known as Facebook, added 3D avatar features for Instagram stories and Direct Messages (DMs) for the select regions.
This feature will allow users to create their virtual selves in Instagram’s sticker feed posts and even for profile pictures. Facebook and its Messenger will also get updated Avatars.
These features will allow users to select facial shapes which can be adjusted as per the requirements. In addition to this, there will be an option to include various implants, hearing aids, and wheelchairs to be more inclusive for users with disabilities. It will help create a more authentic virtual persona.
“From the time we revealed our larger goals of Metaverse in 2021, we’ve been continuously working towards building the next evolution of social networking. This will allow users to sit in the same room with their loved ones virtually, people who have situated thousands of miles away for work,” expressed Aigerim Shorman, Meta’s General Manager for Avatars and Identity, in a blog post.
These features are currently made available for users in the US, Canada, and Mexico region.
