McCormick Switzerland Sells the Kohinoor Brand to Adani Wilmar

Adani Wilmar Ltd (AWL), a large edible oil company, announced on Tuesday that it had purchased various brands from McCormick Switzerland GMBH for an unknown sum, including the famed Kohinoor Brand — domestic (India region).

The deal gives AWL exclusive rights to the ‘Kohinoor’ basmati rice brand in India and the ‘Ready to Cook’ and ‘Ready to Eat’ curries and meals portfolio under the Kohinoor Brand umbrella.

“The addition of Kohinoor’s domestic Brand Portfolio boosts Adani Wilmar’s leadership position in the food FMCG category by augmenting a strong product basket with the premium brand and the ability to develop value-added products,” according to a news release.

“It also uses the Kohinoor brand’s reach to develop synergies for AWL across countries, complementing the reach of its flagship brand ‘Fortune’ in the food FMCG arena,” the company noted.

“The acquisition will power AWL’s next phase of expansion and broaden the portfolio to serve premium customer groups across rice and other value-added food companies,” the company noted.
