India Must Lead Tech Revolution to Secure Future Jobs Bhavish Aggarwal

Bhavish Aggarwal

Ola Founder Bhavish Aggarwal has underscored India’s need to lead the global technology transition, particularly in artificial intelligence (AI), to create future jobs and secure its position in the evolving global landscape. Speaking with PTI editors, Aggarwal emphasized that while the government should focus on creating an enabling environment and addressing trade imbalances, the private sector must take the lead in job creation and innovation.

Aggarwal lauded the Indian government’s initiatives to attract global electric vehicle (EV) manufacturers, including Tesla, through fiscal incentives. He highlighted that such investments would accelerate the development of India’s EV ecosystem, furthering the country’s ambitions to become a global hub for electric vehicles. Ola Electric, a newly listed entity under his leadership, aims to pioneer this effort by developing EVs tailored to India’s unique needs.

Addressing concerns about AI-induced job losses, Aggarwal drew parallels with the IT boom, which ultimately generated jobs despite initial fears. He argued that AI, rather than replacing jobs, would enhance productivity and that India must actively participate in this technological evolution to avoid being left behind. He stressed that AI models tailored to Indian data and use cases are critical, citing Ola’s AI startup, Krutrim, as an example of his commitment to this vision.

Aggarwal also emphasized the importance of the private sector’s role in driving India’s technological future, arguing that future technologies will create new jobs and supply chains. He urged Indian businesses to step up their efforts, stating, “If we focus on protecting the past, we remain uncompetitive.”

In conclusion, Aggarwal reinforced that India’s path to global leadership in future technologies lies in embracing innovation and creating a conducive environment for private sector growth.
