IGT Technologies Inc., located in India, has picked Knoxville for its first big U.S. plant, investing $4 million and creating new employment.
COO Akhil Agarwal said at an event Wednesday that the business has already employed 150 people and aims to quadruple that number in the coming months, with a focus on filling jobs from the top down. He also stated that the firm intends to hire additional people over the next five years.
According to Doug Lawyer, vice president of economic development for the Knoxville Region Chamber of Commerce, this new employment announcement is part of a wider economic trend of IT, cybersecurity, and other technology businesses investing and moving in the Knoxville area.
