Government Issues Draft Notification for Use of Flex-Fuel Engine

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways issued a draft notification for the use of flex-fuel engines to stimulate the fossil fuel industry. As per this, blend of 12% and 15% of ethanol in gasoline can be used as automotive fuels.

Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari said that, “ethanol is a better, pollution free and cost-effective fuel than petrol. The manufacturers from Brazil, Canada, US are alredy producing flex-fuel engines to provide alternate options of petrol or bio-fuel.”

He further added that the decision to make flex-fuel engine mandatory will be taken in 8-10 days. The gasoline vehicle with a spark ignition engine that can be compatible to run on the ethanol blend shall be type approved as per the norms of gasoline emission.
