GCCs Offer Up to 20% Higher Pay Than IT Firms: Report

GCCs

Global Capability Centres (GCCs) are increasingly making their mark across India’s tech industry, not only through their expanding presence beyond tier-1 cities into tier-2 locations but also by offering significantly higher compensation packages. According to a recent report by Team Lease Digital, GCCs are providing salaries that are 12-20% higher than those offered by traditional IT companies and non-tech firms hiring for tech roles.

India currently hosts over 1,600 GCCs employing more than 1.66 million professionals. This number is expected to rise to 1,900 GCCs, employing over two million people by 2025, with a focus on advanced technologies such as Generative AI, AI/ML, Data Analytics, Cybersecurity, Cloud Computing, and Robotic Process Automation (RPA). The report highlights that the Indian tech industry, projected to reach $350 billion by 2025, will see significant investments in these areas, up from $254 billion in FY24.

The report, which analyzed over 15,000 job roles, revealed that in key areas such as software development, cybersecurity, data management, cloud solutions, and technical support, compensation at GCCs across entry, mid, and senior levels outpaces that of traditional IT and non-tech companies. Major metro cities like Bengaluru, Gurgaon, Hyderabad, Delhi, Mumbai, and Chennai offer the highest salaries for tech roles, while tier-2 cities such as Jaipur, Indore, and Coimbatore are emerging as new hubs for GCCs, particularly in fields like Data Science, Product Management, and Data Engineering.

Krishna Vij, Vice-President at Team Lease Digital, noted that GCCs are leading the charge in digital transformation, particularly in advanced technologies, and are setting new benchmarks for innovation. “The compensation in these centres is notably higher, underscoring the premium on digital skills,” Vij said, adding that with 800 new GCCs expected in the next 5-6 years, this growth will increasingly extend beyond major cities.
