With the objective of helping students in the state who have lost their parents due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the government of Punjab has decided to offer free education to them along with a monthly social security pension of Rs 1500, which the students can use for purchasing necessary resources.
Under this new scheme, the government will offer free education up to the level of graduation to those students, who have lost their parents to the Covid-19 pandemic. As per the CM of the state, Captain Amarinder Singh, doing so is the state’s duty.
Government will not only offer free education to the students orphaned due to Covid-19, but will also provide a monthly social security pension of Rs 1500 to those families who have lost their breadwinners so that they can take care of their monthly expenses and fulfill their necessities.
CM Amarinder Singh also talked about the relief measures provided to those who have lost their family in the pandemic. He announced that the government will form a monitoring committee which will review the progress and relief measures of every single case. This committee will be headed by the Minister for Social Security and Women and Child Development.
In this context, various other state governments including Madhya Pradesh, Delhi, and Chhattisgarh have also decided to provide free education and resources to those children who have lost their parents and guardians due to the Covid-19 pandemic. It has not been decided yet when the educational institutes will reopen.
