Migrant workers, who have been rushing to their home towns from the national capital, will be given shelter at the Buddh International Circuit. The halt of economic activity due to the 21-day lockdown ordered to contain the Covid-19 spread has caused panic among these workers.

Under the Disaster Management Act, BN Singh, the district magistrate of Gautam Budh Nagar said that he has invoked special powers to designate Jaypee Sports City as a shelter home for migrant workers.

ANI quoted the order from the Gautam Budh Nagar District Magistrate, “JPSI Sports City, Yamuna Expressway along with their building and other resources have been designed as shelter homes with immediate effect for the medical treatment, food, and lodging of people of the district or other states, who are destitute in Gautam Budh Nagar.”

Makeshift structures have been ordered to be made to house the migrant workers by the DM. According to the report, the migrant workers won’t be allowed in the core area of the Formula 1 circuit.

After the order, arrangements are being made by the YEIDA officials. “Water and electricity connections are available. Other things have been ordered. The arrangement would be done in makeshift structures,” a Times of India report quoted Navneet Goel, YEIDA’s officer on special duty.
