Tata Steel has agreed to deliver “zeremis green steel” from its IJmuiden factory in the Netherlands once the unit transitions to hydrogen-based steel production.
Tata Steel is working in Europe to transition to low-carbon steel manufacturing technology in the United Kingdom and the Netherlands.
Tata Steel U.K. and Tata Steel Nederland have been developing detailed plans for the transition to low CO2 technologies in line with the company’s goal of producing CO2-neutral steel by 2050 in Europe, according to the company’s CEO & MD T.V. Narendran and Executive Director and CFO Koushik Chatterjee.
“Tata Steel Nederland has secured an agreement with Ford in Europe to provide the carmaker with Zeremis green steel once the IJmuiden steelworks transitions to green hydrogen-based steelmaking,” according to a statement.
Ford is the first client committed to purchasing the green steel that Tata Steel wants to create via the hydrogen approach, which is more sustainable and cleaner than conventional steel-making technology.
