He strived hard to become a leading paediatrician of the world and a social worker. He has pioneered an inexpensive transport care facility project for the high-risk new-born.
He pioneered the intensive neonatal and childcare hospital, the first of its kind in central India with innovative facilities and 24 hours paediatric and neonatal emergency services since 1988. He extended all types of medical help to the needy irrespective of financial status. So far, the hospital holds an impeccable record by offering its services to more than ten lacs children in a short span of 40 years.
A Proficient Leader
Dr Bodhankar has contributed immensely to the welfare of children and mothers for more than 40 years, ever since his early professional career.
He has conducted more than one thousand immunization diagnoses and management camps in the poor and underprivileged slum areas in collaboration with government agencies, Lions Club, Jaycees Club, Rotary Club, and other non-government organisations.
He delivered more than 100 public lectures related to child health problems on radio and television. He also conducted ‘Child Health Awareness Camps’ in the rural areas to educate people about the common newborn and childhood diseases, their complications, prevention, and remedies in emergencies.
Dr Uday has delivered over one hundred scientific lectures and trained general practitioners as resources persons of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) – Government of India. He also trained all medical teachers of MS through the IMNCI project of MUHS and UNICEF and the Ministry of Education, Government of India.
Exhibiting Excellence
For over 40 years, Dr Uday Bodhankar has organised various national and international workshops related to newborn and child health, and disability with the help of WHO (World Health Organization), UNICEF, Ministry of Health, Governmentt of India. He had various collaborations with universities like UIC Chicago, and the University of Sydney Australia for these workshops.
Dr Uday was awarded the outstanding Paediatrician of Asia award in China in October 2009 for being the First Indian child specialist to have this highest Asian unique honour of being selected from 23 Asian countries of the world for his distinguished service for the welfare of newborn and children of Asia.
He has been the first paediatrician from Asia, who has the rare, distinguished honour of being invited by the Queen of England at Buckingham Palace, London and was honoured by Queen Elizabeth as the first Asian secretary-general of ‘Commonwealth Association for Health and Disability’ (UK) on 28th April 2009.
Honourable President of India, her Excellency Dr Smt. Pratibhatai Devising Patil also complimented Dr Uday Bodhankar for his outstanding work in child welfare.
He has been a Co-Author and a contributor to many textbooks in paediatric, and neonatology like “Rational Paediatric Practice,” an official publication of the ‘Indian Academy of Paediatrics’ – a recognized referral book for practitioners and contributed many articles related to child health in regional, national and international newspapers and periodicals.
