Dimensity 9200 Processor Adds WiFi7 and Ray-Tracing to Smartphones

MediaTek Inc, the Taiwanese fabless semiconductor company headquartered in Hshinchu, has declared the formal introduction of Dimensity 9200 as its new flagship processor, which will power the next generation of flagship smartphones. The Dimensity 9000 series is MediaTek’s line of bellwether processors. Announced earlier, it includes the Dimensity 9000 and the Dimensity 9000 Plus, which happen to be the competitors of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1.

Despite having its chipsets in wider product applications, Qualcomm is given tough competition by MediaTek. The Dimensity 9000 processor has surpassed the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, and that rivalry can be seen percolating to this new generation processor. Qualcomm soon would be launching the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset at the Snapdragon summit starting on Nov 15th.

According to MediaTek, Dimensity 9200 is a 4nm chipset built by TSMC (Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company Ltd), having eight CPU cores in a 1+3+4 configuration. The prime core being Cortex-X3 which is clocked at 3.05GHz. The new chipset also features ARM’s new Immortalis-G&15 GPU, equipped with a hardware-based ray-tracing engine.
