US-based technology giant Cisco on Thursday said it has inked two contracts with the “International Centre for Entrepreneurship and Technology (iCreate)” and GIFT in Gujarat for setting up an IoT innovation hub and a smart city project.
“Cisco signed two MoUs, which include establishing an IoT Innovation hub to develop and customize solutions for digital technologies with “International Centre for Entrepreneurship and Technology” (iCreate) and a smart city project in Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT),” Cisco said in a statement.
ICreate is an autonomous institute that aims to catalyze new age entrepreneurial quests of the youth. Chaired by Additional Chief Secretary of Industries and Mines Department, PK Taneja, iCreate’s Advisory Board is headed by Infosys co-founder Narayana Murthy.
Cisco, in partnership with iCreate, will explore the setting up of an IoT Innovation Hub at the latter’s new campus at Dev Dholera, Gujarat to foster local innovation prospects.
The innovation centre will enable startups and entrepreneurs to create smart city with IoT-based solutions.
Cisco experts, together with startups and industry partners, will develop ultimate proof of concepts and identify features and functionalities which are required for optimizing digital solutions, and involve in rapid prototyping.
“My vision for the state is to digitally authorize every citizen, thereby enhancing their quality of life, and enable ease of doing business by becoming a knowledge and innovation hub for the country,” Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani said.
Also, Cisco and GIFT are discovering deployment of smart city applications in the GIFT City campus, including public Wi-Fi, traffic analytics, smart parking, smart transport, remote expert government services (REGS), smart kiosk and smart environmental sensors.
This project will utilize Cisco’s global skill and intellectual property in the areas of IoT, cloud computing and data analytics, mobile technology and applications. Cisco will also involve with ecosystem partners to create new applications specifically for GIFT.
