On Thursday, Campbell Wilson was appointed as CEO and MD of Air India by Tata Sons. The nomination was approved by the Air India board of directors, subject to regulatory approvals.
The news comes after Turkish Airlines CEO Ilker Ayci’s appointment as Air India’s CEO sparked controversy due to his political ties. Since the government handed over ownership of the airline to Tatas in January, the position has been empty.
Mr. Wilson, 50, is the CEO of Scoot, Singapore Airlines’ wholly-owned low-cost subsidiary (SIA). He has over 26 years of aviation experience working for full-service and budget airlines.
“It gives me great pleasure to welcome Campbell to Air India. He has extensive experience in the industry, having worked in key worldwide marketplaces across different functions. In addition, his experience building an airline brand in Asia would benefit Air India. N. Chandrasekaran, Chairman of Air India, said, “I look forward to working with him in developing a world-class airline.”
