BYD is to launch its new electric SUV in the Indian automotive market this October. This new SUV is expected to compete with Morris Garages ZS EV, Hyundai Kona, and the to-be-launched Tata Curvv.
The Chinese EV giant having its headquarters in Shenzhen has already surpassed Tesla to become the world’s leading EV maker in the first half of 2022.
BYD which has already made its presence felt in the electric commercial segment, is now keen on widening its mainstream EV portfolio in India, aiming towards achieving an ambitious 15% market share by 2030.
The EV customers will get a wider choice of electric passenger vehicles (PV), while the current players facing a new strong competitor entering the domestic market, there would be a solid action on the Indian EV skyline.
Sanjay Gopalakrishnan, senior vice-president, of the electric passenger vehicles division in BYD India, said: “By 2030 the Indian car market will reach 6 million units. Out of this, EVs will account for 30% of the market. We want to grab 15% of this EV space by that time.”
