According to data issued by the industry regulator Trai, telecom operator Reliance Jio has surpassed Bharti Airtel to become the country’s second-largest fixed-line service provider in February 2022. Telephone and broadband internet services delivered across a network of cables are referred to as fixed-line or wireline telecommunication.
According to the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India’s subscriber report released on Tuesday, Reliance Jio’s wireline subscriber counts surpassed 58.85 lakh in February, while Bharti Airtel’s subscriber base surpassed 57.66 lakh.
In February, Reliance Jio led the wireline telephone growth with 2.44 lakh new consumers. With 91,243 new users, Bharti Airtel came in second in the segment. Vodafone Idea gained 24,948 new subscribers, Quadrant 18,622 new customers, and Tata Teleservices 3,772 new consumers.
Only BSNL has more than 75.76 lakh wireline customers than Reliance Jio. BSNL and MTNL, which have a combined 49.5 percent share of the market, lost 49,074 and 21,900 fixed-line users, respectively.
The growing trend in wireline subscriber base, which began after the initial wave of the Covid-19 outbreak, is picking up speed, with private telecom carriers leading the charge.
