Apple has started to assemble the high-end iPhone 11 handset at its Foxconn factory in Chennai. According to sources, Apple plans to boost supply on a phased-type basis. Units from Chennai may also be exported to other markets.

Reports also claimed that Apple is also preparing to assemble the latest iPhone SE 2020 at its Wistron plant in Bengaluru. This could be the first time that Apple has produced one of India’s most expensive handsets.

In May of this year, Apple CEO Tim Cook said that manufacturing in India was one of the company’s top priorities. “I think India is a very important market in the long-term. It’s a challenging market in the short-term. But we’re learning a lot. We have started manufacturing there which is very important to be able to serve the market in a reasonable way. And we’re growing that capability there,” Cook had said.

In recent times, Apple has slowly increased its production in India. The firm is now assembling Apple iPhone 6s, iPhone 7, and iPhone XR in India.
