However, her mother-in-law, though from a conservative business family motivated her to pursue law instead of sitting idle at home.

Adv. Sunita’s mother-in-law took the responsibilities of the entire house. As a result, Adv. Sunita could complete her degree in law with flying colours in the year 1995. Thereafter, with the support of her husband, mother-in-law, father-in-law, and her two children, she started practicing in the Pune District and Sessions Court initially under the guidance of Senior Adv. Vibha Tambe on the civil side and eventually joined the chamber of Senior Advocate Late Viraj Kakadeand Adv Harshad Nimbalkar.

After joining the legal profession, various senior advocates from Pune Bar with whom Adv. Sunita used to interact, motivated her. From every senior, she learnt various aspects of Art of Advocacy.  “I have no legacy in the legal profession and my senior and mentor Adv Viraj Kakade, always trusted me and motivated me to conduct all sorts of criminal matters”, states Adv. Sunita. The great freedom fighter Lokamanya Tilak has always been her inspiration in the legal profession and therefore, she has also written a book in Marathi language viz. ‘Black Coat’ depicting the journey of Lokmanya Tilak as an Advocate. It gives its very best to bring the truth on record. It expresses that every person even if charged under penal law or any other punitive law is always considered innocent unless proven guilty.

Accordingly, the firm never rejects any case on the basis of any criteria, and it always strives hard to deliver justice. It believes that advancing the client’s case honestly before the judge is more important than anything else. The firm is of the opinion that a lawyer has to be honest towards oneself, the profession, clients, and more particularly towards the judiciary and legal system.

Staying Updated with Technology

Bansal Chorbele Law Chambers states that in the 21st Century, where the entire world has come closer due to technology, advocates have also embraced it. Lawyers have become tech-savvy and communication by e-mails and social media has become very common. However, during the pandemic, when the entire nation was under lockdown, they could not access the office and important files and could not conduct meetings. Nevertheless, instead of complaining about the same, Bansal Chorbele Law Chambers saw the same as an opportunity and started conducting online meetings over Zoom, Google Meet, and other virtual platforms with its clients. This helped it to connect with various new clients across the globe as well.

During the lockdown, the firm also conducted online internship programs for students from various law schools. This benefited many aspiring lawyers. After the lockdown, when the offices were reopened, the first thing that Bansal Chorbele Law Chambers did was digitalizing the files, which it could easily access from anywhere. It also provided online updates to its clients through software immediately after the court dates and kept them updated about the progress and status of their cases. The firm has recently launched its website www.bclawchambers.com, to help people provide more information and to facilitate swift communication.

Eradicating Legal Illiteracy

Bansal Chorbele Law Chambers always believes in doing something for the benefit of the society and with the same feeling the firm is attached to various NGOs, social organization, and various social workers who work for the underprivileged class of the society. It has also addressed the audience in several legal literacy camps in the villages, schools, etc., where it tried to make them aware of various legal rights, duties, and provisions of laws. Furthermore, through these camps, the firm has tried to educate the public about various legal aspects which are required in day-to-day life such as rights of women, how to read 7/12 extract, mutation entries, how to lodge F.I.R, what is bail, surety, etc., laws for senior citizens, domestic violence, child abuse, etc.

Adv. Sunita is also the Chairperson of the Legal Aid Committee of TMV’s Lokmanya Tilak College, Pune. Every year, the Legal Aid Committee organizes legal literacy camps in various rural areas around Pune district wherein she addresses the said literacy camps on numerous legal topics. Adv. Sunita has always emphasized opting for recourse of mediation and conciliation to resolve disputes including matrimonial disputes. She has also written many articles on several topics of law which have been published in leading English newspapers of the city.

The firm believes that nowadays, before approaching a lawyer for any consultation, most people browse the internet, due to which they develop misconceptions on various legal issues including court procedure, judicial system, laws, etc. The firm opines that it is important to make them understand and aware of the practical court process and law procedure followed the court as per the manuals. Therefore, Bansal Chorbele Law Chambers’ first task with such clients is to explain to them the actual court procedure, practical aspects for conducting a case in court, and the final outcome before proceeding further with their case.

Opinions on E-Court Platforms and Digitization

Bansal Chorbele Law Chambers opines that e-courts are a boon to the judicial process and they can equally benefit the law and citizens and help to reduce the pendency in courts. E-courts and virtual hearings can help in the speedy delivery of justice, while avoiding unnecessary adjournment due to time constraints, travel issues, etc. Lawyers from any part of the county can attend different courts ranging from Supreme Court to lower court in any small town by saving the travel time and money resulting in a cost-effective justice for the clients.

Words for the Emerging Leaders

Adv. Sunita and Adv. Nitish believe in the saying, “Life is full of choices and compromises, compromises control your life and choosing a good choice is the success of your life”. They say, “Nowadays we see many students after completing law directly start practicing in Supreme Court or High Courts”. The firm suggests these students practice for at least two years in trial courts, which will help them to observe and learn from senior advocates how to conduct cases, arguments, recording of evidence especially cross-examination. This will further help them to excel in their career. It further advises every budding lawyer to read the book ‘Roses in December’ by Justice M.C. Chagla, which will help them to understand the noble profession and their responsibilities as an advocate towards their client, society, judiciary, and nation.

Bansal Chorbele Law Chambers believes that a budding lawyer should also be well versed with the local language apart from being fluent in English. They should be honest towards themselves, their clients, and the judiciary. Adv. Sunita and Adv. Nitish say, “He or she should always be well dressed as per the dress code prescribed in Advocates Act and be presentable”. These lawyers should always keep themselves updated by reading various new judgements passed by the Hon’ble Supreme Court and different high courts. The firm considers that every budding lawyer should be patient and humble; they should respect every advocate, including their opponents, the judges, the court staff etc.

The Road Ahead

Adv. Sunita and Adv. Nitish believe in the words said by Senior Advocate Late Ram Jethmalani-“I am a student of Law and will be the student of Law, till I die”. The firm always abides by the said principle and learns new things every day. It implements the same in its day-to-day practice and at the chamber.

Bansal Chorbele Law Chambers was established in the year 2014 and in this span of seven years, it has successfully represented various national and multinational companies, business houses, celebrities, corporate houses, educational institutes, individuals, etc. in trial courts, high court, and various tribunals. Considering the same, the chamber has plans to grow the office beyond Pune and start their offices in other major cities of the country.
