Lauren & Toubro has grabbed USD 99.7 million deal to design, construct, and provide high-speed patrol vessels.
With this contract, L&T will transfer design and technology along with the supply of material kits and equipment for construction of follow-on vessels at a Vietnam shipyard.
The high speed patrol vessels are purposely built for protecting and controlling sea security, detecting illegal activities like smuggling and undertaking search and rescue missions. The vessels are constructed of aluminum alloy, about 35 meters long and can get a speed of 35 knots with a state of the art navigation.
“The contract is a testimony to the L&T’s world-class technological capabilities. We hope for the contract to pave the way for stronger bilateral ties between India and Vietnam,” commented S N Subrahmanyan, president and deputy managing director of L&T.
“A combination of factors ranging from its track record to design capability and execution skills had clinched the deal in favor of L&T,” said B. Kannan, Managing Director, and CEO of L&T Shipbuilding Ltd.
Keeping with the Make in India policy of the Government of India, design, and engineering of these vessels will be completed at L&T’s dedicated warship design center with the vessels being built at L&T’s Kattupali Shipyard, Chennai.
L&T is presently designing and constructing 54 interceptor boats (IBs) for Indian Coast Guard out of which 28 IBs have already delivered.
L&T hopes that the deal will pave the way for stronger bilateral ties between Vietnam and India.
