The space agency will launch Chandrayaan-3 with an LVM3 rocket at 2.35 pm on Friday, July 14, 2023.
The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) announced that the final countdown for the nation’s third moon mission, Chandrayaan-3, began on July 13 at the spaceport in Bengaluru.
The lunar mission on Friday comes after the Chandrayaan-2 mission in 2019, which aims for a soft landing on the moon’s surface. If the mission is successful, India will join a select group of countries that have accomplished this accomplishment, including the United States, China, and the erstwhile Soviet Union.
Through its social media post ISRO said,“LVM3M4-CHANDRAYAAN-3 MISSION: The countdown leading to the launch tomorrow (Friday- July 14) at 14.35 hrs has commenced.”
On Friday at 2.35 p.m., the space agency will launch Chandrayaan-3 using an LVM3 rocket. The propellant filling is ongoing, according to an ISRO mission update. The board has approved the launch, and the mission readiness review for it has already been finished.
With the aim of developing and showcasing new technology necessary for interplanetary missions, Chandrayaan-3, which will be India’s third lunar mission, consists of an indigenous lander module (LM), propulsion module (PM), and rover.
The rover, which will conduct in-situ chemical analysis of the lunar surface while it is moving, will be deployed after the lander gently lands at a precise point on the moon, according to ISRO. Both the Lander and the Rover are equipped with scientific payloads that will perform surface testing on the moon.
“If the launch takes place on that day then we will be ready for landing on the moon possibly by the last week of August. The date (landing date) is decided when there is sunrise on the moon. When we are landing, sunlight must be there. So the landing will be on August 23 or 24,” Mr Somnath said.
