What made you venture into the agriculture space?
There is an inspiring memory behind this.
When Dr. S. Prem Mathi Maran was pursuing the doctorate, his guide and mentor said, “Three industries are an integral part of the universe…till the human are there …these three industries will survive. Agriculture, medicine, and education.”
So as a biology student, he selected agriculture as his venture.
What kind of offerings do you provide to your clients?
We provide turnkey agritech solutions with a forward value addition of agri products. This includes conversion of agri produces into Phytopharma compounds, nutraceuticals, natural food colors, natural food flavours, etc.
What kind of challenges have you faced while entering the agriculture space?
While entering, way back in 2005, we were trying to automate the farming system. That automation was later nomenclature as artificial intelligence and machine learning. We were trying to implement AI solutions in precision farming, post-harvest, weather forecast, etc.
In the technical era, initially, there was a resistance amongst our clients. Everybody wanted to have a demonstration of our systems. But being a startup at that time, investing on the demonstration units was a bottleneck for us. But somehow, we overcame that and worked to be a fortune company today.
How much your company was affected in these pandemic times and what were the steps taken by you to curb the damages all the while helping your clients and maintaining the safety of your employees?
We were affected adversely during the pandemic as the spending capacity of individual farmers and capital investment of corporates were nil. We are anyway maintaining our staffs. But we foresee a great leap in another three to four months as the future for phytopharma is very promising and the food habits of people have changed to a great degree.
What would you like to advice the young generation of entrepreneurs looking to enter in the agriculture space?
The future is in the hands of agriculture, agritech, agribiotech, and food processing industry. Hence without any second thought one can enter this field.
What kind of technological advancements pertaining in the agriculture industry have you adopted to streamline your business’ operations?
We have adopted artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML), solar powered cold storage, processing systems on wheels into the agriculture sector. This can be applied in farming, processing, and post-harvest industries.
What is the current industrial scenario of the Indian agriculture sector?
Indian agri sector is growing steadily. There is a new farming of alternative fibers from hemp, bamboo fibers, banana pith fibers, etc.
